Inside the 2026 CX-70: Key Features Worth Knowing

The 2026 Mazda CX-70 returns with a refined lineup that now includes three new plug-in hybrid trims and subtle design updates. If you're shopping for a two-row SUV offering both mild-hybrid efficiency and plug-in electric capability, the CX-70 has expanded to meet wider needs. Here's what you need to know about key features, powertrain options, and trim differences for 2026.

This guide answers the most common questions we hear at Woodstock Mazda about the CX-70, from powertrain choices to standard safety tech and interior upgrades.

What Powertrains Are Available in the 2026 CX-70?

The CX-70 offers two powertrain paths: mild-hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Both use Mazda's e-Skyactiv G 3.3L inline-six turbo engine, but the PHEV adds a battery pack and electric motor for plug-in capability.

Mild-Hybrid (MHEV): Available on GS-L, GT, GT-P, and Signature trims, producing 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel. Fuel economy is rated at 9.9 L/100 km city, 8.4 L/100 km highway, and 9.3 L/100 km combined. The system uses a small battery to assist acceleration and recover braking energy, but cannot drive on electric power alone.

Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV): Available on GS SC, GS-L SC, GT, and Signature trims, delivering 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The PHEV provides up to 51 km of electric-only range on the GS SC, or 43 km on GT and Signature PHEV trims. You can charge at home or public stations, then switch to hybrid mode once depleted. The PHEV includes a Charge Mode button and dedicated EV mode in the Mi-Drive system.

All CX-70 models come standard with i-Activ AWD and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

What's New for 2026?

The 2026 CX-70 is a carryover from the 2025 redesign with notable updates. The biggest change is three new PHEV trims: GS SC, GS-L SC, and Signature, expanding plug-in hybrid availability across the lineup.

All 2026 models now feature gloss black Mazda emblems and black badges on the rear liftgate, replacing chrome accents. Mazda has also introduced Deep Crystal Blue Mica paint, available on GT and GT-P trims.
