43 km EV Range on All Trims: Here's What Actually Changes Between the 2026 CX-90 PHEV GS-L, GT, and Signature

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 PHEV lineup has four trims — GS, GS-L, GT, and Signature — and the three upper trims are where most serious buyers end up. The GS is the entry point; the GS-L, GT, and Signature are the configurations that buyers with larger families, higher feature requirements, or specific technology priorities gravitate toward.

All three share the same powertrain: the e-Skyactiv PHEV system pairing a 2.5 L naturally aspirated four-cylinder with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery. Combined system output is 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on premium 91-octane fuel. NRCan rates the CX-90 PHEV at 4.2 Le/100 km blended, with 43 km of electric-only range. All trims are rated to tow up to 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg) with Mazda Genuine Towing Accessories. None of that changes across the three trims — what changes is everything inside and around those numbers.

CX-90 PHEV GS-L — The Practical Foundation

The GS-L is the trim where the PHEV story becomes genuinely comfortable to live with. Over the base GS, the GS-L adds the features that buyers in this vehicle class typically expect as standard on a daily driver.

Connectivity takes a clear step forward: the infotainment display grows to a full 12.3-inch colour screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and touch functionality when connected to those phone-based systems. Wireless phone charging and additional USB-C ports across all three rows ensure every row has charging access. Cruise and Traffic Support (CTS) — Mazda's highway lane-centring and adaptive cruise assist — becomes standard, which meaningfully reduces driver fatigue on longer trips.

Interior comfort improves with leatherette-trimmed upholstery, a 10-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, a four-way power passenger seat, heated front seats, and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel. The GS-L also adds a power glass sunroof, a hands-free power rear liftgate, rear parking sensors, and piano black exterior accents.

Customers may choose between the standard second-row bench seat (eight passengers) or an available seven-passenger layout with second-row captain's chairs.

Safety additions over the GS include rear parking sensors for easier manoeuvring.

GS-L suits: buyers who want wireless connectivity, CTS, leatherette seating, and the heated steering wheel as the primary step up from entry — without paying for Nappa leather or the GT's broader feature set.

CX-90 PHEV GT — The Full Package

The GT is the most populated trim in PHEV lineups — it's where the interior, exterior, technology, and safety all reach a level that most buyers find complete enough to stop.

On the exterior, 21-inch machined alloy wheels replace the 19-inch units, and a full power panoramic moonroof replaces the standard sunroof. Automatic power-folding, auto-dimming side mirrors arrive. The PHEV fender badge and a front wiper de-icer add to the exterior identity.

Inside, the seat material upgrades to Nappa leather in black, with ventilated front seats and heated second-row outboard seats. The driver's seat gains a memory function. A fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster pairs with the existing 12.3-inch centre display. Mazda Online Navigation with OTA update capability, Bose 12-speaker premium audio, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, enhanced LED interior lighting, and wireless phone charging round out the cabin picture.

Crucially, the GT adds a 1,500-watt AC power outlet in the cargo area — a feature not available on the GS or GS-L, and one that opens up genuine utility: running a portable cooler, charging power tools, powering a small appliance during a camping trip. Retractable rear window shades are also added at this trim.

On the safety side, the GT adds Front Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring with Vehicle Exit Warning, Smart Brake Support Rear and Rear Crossing, Trailer Hitch View, and front and rear parking sensors over the GS-L.

GT suits: buyers who want Nappa leather, the full safety net, 21-inch wheels, the panoramic moonroof, and the 1,500 W cargo outlet — this is the trim where the CX-90 PHEV feels fully realised.

CX-90 PHEV Signature — The Most Refined Configuration

The Signature is the top of the PHEV lineup and carries the most premium interior appointments, the most advanced safety suite, and two features exclusive to this trim.

Nappa leather is available in Black or Pure White, paired with premium interior trim accents. Second-row captain's chairs with ventilation are standard — the first trim in the PHEV lineup where ventilated rear seats are included. A heated, power-adjustable steering wheel with memory and power tilt-telescopic adjustment replaces the standard unit. Enhanced interior lighting and premium textures throughout elevate the cabin atmosphere.

Two features are unique to the Signature. The Driver Personalization System uses facial recognition to automatically adjust the driver's seat, steering wheel, and mirrors to each driver's saved profile — a feature that makes shared-vehicle households meaningfully more convenient. The cargo area outlet at this trim is a 150-watt AC outlet, which handles charging smaller devices and accessories — the higher-output 1,500 W outlet from the GT is not available on the Signature.

The Signature's i-Activsense suite is the most complete in the PHEV lineup: Smart Brake Support Front Crossing, Emergency Lane Keeping with Head-on Traffic Avoidance Assist, Secondary Collision Reduction, Turning-Across Traffic Support, and the 360° View Monitor with See-Through View and Trailer Hitch View.

Signature suits: buyers who specifically want the Driver Personalization System, ventilated second-row captain's chairs, Pure White Nappa leather, and the complete i-Activsense suite — and who don't require the GT's 1,500 W cargo outlet.

2026 Mazda Towing Capacity Ranked: Which SUV Tows 5,000 lbs and Which Stops at 1,500 lbs?

Not every SUV is built with towing in mind, and within any lineup, towing capacity can vary significantly depending on the powertrain and trim level.
